Accommodations in the mountains, with easy access to a small walkable town

Any suggestions? We've done Sperryville, which is great because we love the Shenandoah's... but we thought it might be fun to try somewhere else.

Thanks for the recommendations. I am from Vermont, and I guess that is the vibe I'm looking for.

Any suggestions for places within a couple of hours drive of DC?

This doesn't quite meet your criteria but Rose River Farm has very lovely accomodations a short drive to great hiking and Charlottesville is about 20 min away. it's not walkable to anything though.

Thanks! We don't need to be able to walk anywhere from the lodging, but a place within a short drive would be nice. I checked out Rose River, and they are booked for the weekend we are looking at, but I'm bookmarking the page for later.

Also, thanks to the person who suggested Cedar Point cabins, they look nice as well (but also don't work for our dates). It looks like they would be a great place for a family trip though.
