| for next summer, the last week of August 2017. It will be a party of 5-6 for six nights stay. I am using hotels.com, booking.com, etc and finding many hotels are already booked for that time and the ones that aren't are very expensive around $3000. Is it just that Chicago is expensive? Is it too early to find deals? What am I missing? |
It's a really expensive city and it's also really early. You won't get sold out - just wait a few months to book. |
| We just stayed at the Palmer House which was extremely convenient--we could walk to lots of things and it was right on the loop and on major bus routes so we could take public transportation to all of the museums and places that were too far to walk. It's the hotel that they filmed the end of The Fugitive in. The last week of August was about $250 a night for the "executive" floor which included breakfast in the morning and hors d'oeuvres and snacks in the afternoons in the lounge; rooms on regular floors would be cheaper and there are plenty of places to eat around the hotel. On the high floors it was perfectly quiet despite being right downtown. |
| It's very expensive. We usually stay at Hilton Suites or Marriot Residence Inn Suites with breakfast - there is enough room for kids and free breakfast makes it worth it plus easier in the morning if everyone doesn't get up at the same time. |
| Our young adult daughter went to college and now lives in Chicago, and we've always stayed at the Embassy Suites Downtown/Lakefront when we visit. |
| Love the Embassy Suites. |

The Omni on N. Michigan is a great location!
For families, we liked the Hampton Inn Downtown/N. Loop on Wacker and the Hampton Inn Majestic on Monroe. Both really convenient locations, and the breakfast helps when you're traveling with kids or several families. We can usually find something at that time of year for about $200-$250 for our family of three. |
| We haven't actually stayed there yet but booked at Homewood Suites in River North area for later this month. Relatively reasonable compared to others in the area. |

We loved the Essex Inn. It even has a great pool.
