Water stains in ceilings...where do I start?

We have lived in our house for 3 years, and I have recently noticed very faint water stains in the ceilings of two rooms, our master bedroom (which has a bathroom above one part of it) and our family room, which just has a roof above. This is a dumb question, I know, but, who do I call? A plumber for the bathroom one? How will they be able to tell where the water is coming from? (bathtub? 3 year old spilled water on floor? Leaking pipe in wall?) A handyman?
Honestly, I feel like I need a mom or dad to teach me the basics with house maintenance stuff. My DH and I know nothing and we are seriously neglecting the house. I need help with a leaky unfinished basement, doors that need to be replaced, a deck falling down, a possible 2nd floor renovation, taking up carpets and refinishing or replacing wood floors underneath, a bunch of electrical work, plumbing. I'm so lost. |

| You need to call a plumber or a contractor. This happened to us a few months ago. They cut the ceiling drywall and were able to see whether there was any leakage. Good luck. |
