Zoloft stuck in esophagus

Anonymous
Help! I dry swallowed a cut up 50 mg Zoloft and it feels like it's stuck in my throat. I'm having burning feelings, and am now lightheaded. Has this happened to anyone?

Can you try to eat a piece of bread with water?

Don't panic.

Drink water bit by bit and continuously to dislodge it.
Spoonfuls of honey or jelly or something that slides and could catch it.

Never dry swallow a pill!

I had that happen 2 days ago with a propranolol, to lower my heart-rate - I didn't want to take another one, since a double dose is dangerous, but all the while my heart rate was increasing.
Finally it went down after a couple of hours of drinking and swallowing honey. I also felt burning (from the pill) and lightheadedness (from panic!).

It does burn if it dissolves in your throat so you are not imagining that feeling

Drink lots of water and try to calm down. It will dissolve. You are probably light headed from panicking.

I recently had this happen with a cherry pit I inadvertently swallowed and nurse also suggested bread as a way to dislodge.

OP, please come back for an update so we know that you are okay now.

We are concerned.

How about hot tea to sip and relax and melt that pill?

Sorry, guys! I'm fine now. It subsided around 8, after eating both lunch and dinner and drinking lots of water.

Thanks!

You probably gave yourself esophagitis by dry swallowing the pill.

Pill-Induced Esophagitis https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3099275/

antibiotics and old ppl usually get it but waht you did- 99% sure it's that

This happened to me last night on my way home, never swallow anything without water and I took a half of a 50 mg Sertraline. It burned terribly and a I kept drinking water but my mouth and throat was building up saliva and I was getting sick to my stomach. When I got home I drank a little bit of milk which seemed to calm it a bit but today I can barely swallow and the entire right side of my throat into my ear just throbs. It feels like I have a huge ulcer.
