Five-minute face?

Anonymous
I really need a makeup routine that takes literally no more than 5 minutes.

What's your "fast" routine? Any tips, recommended products?

Thanks!!!

Get the book by Carmindy, the makeup artist on What Not To Wear. Five-minute face is her specialty.

God, mine only takes about a minute.

I use:

tinted moisturizer (Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer)
eyebrow pencil (Clinique)
powder blush (Loreal I think)
black mascara (Kiehls Minerals)
neutral lip gloss (Clinique or Neutrogena)

About 2 minutes:

Tinted moisturizer (bobby brown)
powder using a face brush
powder blush (nars)
eyeliner
small amount of eyeshadow
if I have time, which I usually don't - eyelash curler and mascara
lip gloss

I think the key to saving time is getting away from traditional foundations. I like tinted moisturizers and powder foundations (Stila makes one). They have less coverage though, which is exactly what I want, but may not work if you need heavier coverage.

Moisturizer

Laura Mercier Eye Basics cream shadow/base

Eyeliner

Mascara

Blush

Lipgloss

Powder

I can do all that in under three minutes, easy.

tinted moisturizer or self tanner (I like Clarins)
Lipgloss with a slight tint
Mascara
Brown eye shadow

If a night out, eyeliner on top lid near lashes and a true lipstick usually

Easy-- less than five minutes

Summer I wear lipgloss only during the day, mascara if I was working and if going out at night.

Less is more as we get older.

AGREE!!! I've always subscribed to the theory that less is better (re: makeup), but so much more so in my late 30s!!!

I'm curious to know if you take more than 5 minutes, what are you doing? Granted, I am a very minimalist when it comes to make up (takes me about a minute) but unless you are appearing on stage or in a film, what takes so long?

OP here. The last time I got a makeover was at MAC before I had kids, and that particular counter is decidedly not minimalist. This is my routine (which takes exactly 10 minutes):

Foundation
Concealer
Loose powder
Eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Eyebrow powder (to darken)
Curl eyelashes, then mascara
Blush
Lipstick

I like the idea of using tinted moisturizer and I usually do in the fall/winter, but in the spring/summer it is too humid so the coverage doesn't last long! I have been using ColorStay during those seasons, which works well.

Easily done in 5 minutes or less:

sunscreen
liquid foundation
loose powder
eyeliner and mascara
lipstick

I don't wear blush or eye shadow.

under eye concealer - stila
nude shadow - trish mcavoy
eye liner - something from cvs
tinted moisturizer for cheek blotchiness - dior

sometimes mascara, too. haven't found a brand I like yet.

you're best bet is go to a bobbie brown or laura mercier counter. They are my favorites and have found those lines easy to use.

MAC is way too complicated for me! Although, I do like some of their neutral shadows because they have staying power.

Mascara and eyeliner, moisturizer/sunscreen/toner, a bit of eye shadow in a neutral color and lip gloss (deeper in fall/winter, lighter in summer/spring).

I'd be interested in a tinted moisturizer. Do they make you look to fake looking, though? I always have these visions of having an orange face with that stuff.

PP, the tinted moisturizer matches your skin tone. I have used both Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier.

I hate that orange look and never had it with the tinted moisturizer. I really like wearing it in the summer.
