iphone for tween but without access to internet

Anonymous
Is this possible? Pardon the probably dumb question. If this is possible, would appreciate if you walk me through exactly how to set this up. And is it possible to provide occasional internet access, e.g. to play Pokemon Go? Basically, I would like my tween to be able to call, text, Facetime with family and friends. But not use the internet to google anything...

I'm not aware of a way to do it, but even if you could, what would stop her from texting (or Facetiming, so no record of the conversation) her friends asking them to google it for her?

There is a app called Our Pact that you install on teens phone. So they can't use phone except for texting and calling based upon your schedule. So for us after 9pm - 7am there is no access automatically. And also between 8am - 3pm he doesn't have the ability to play also. So he can use it to call or text. We figured during those times he shouldn't be playing on the phone. It is a free app. Also you can manually ban it when you want.

Just don't buy a smart phone. My kids have slide phones for texting.

Thanks. Sounds like this is what we need.

You can remove safari. That's what I've done.

A smart tween is just going to reinstall and hide the app. They can also just ask siri, cortana, google, or whomever. It makes more sense to trust your kid to make good decisions and check the browsing history every once in a while. You can tell if they have cleared it. With five grown kids, there isn't much we haven't dealt with.

You can get a phone with no data plan, so he only has access via wifi. There are all parental controls you can put in place. But you really should think about what you are trying to protect against. Is it inappropriate content on the internet? Is it that you don't want him wasting time on the phone? There may be different options to choose from depending on what you are trying to prevent. For example, our primary issue with DD is not that she looks at inappropriate content, it is wasting time doing perfectly harmless things.

You can set a restrictions passcode and then block out the stuff you don't want them on. We have safari and app purchases blocked. If she wants a particular app, she must come to us, we approve (or deny), and enter in the passcode ourselves.

I tried to do this (get phones with no data) and had no luck with apple or Verizon. Where do you get it through?

It's not easy to buy a smartphone without a data plan because the data is one of the reasons smartphones exist in the first place.

If there is an app that will disable the phone during the 23 hours a day when he's not allowed to use the Internet, perhaps you could look over his shoulder during the other 60 minutes to make sure that he doesn't Google something.
