My daughter (new HS freshman) plays club soccer and would really like to do a high school sport. She was considering cross country for the fall but she really can't swing it alongside club soccer. She was thinking about trying out for winter track (once the fall soccer season slows up a little) but is worried about the fact that she hasn't run competitively before. She plans to contact the coach once school starts to get more info and ask questions, but I was just curious if anyone could weigh in on this from past experience. Are there tryouts/cuts? Can a kid who has never run competitively before make the team and get up to speed? I'm guessing she would do best in the middle to long distances - she runs 3 miles for fitness on a pretty regular basis and obviously runs a lot in soccer training and games. She really just wants to represent her school and meet other kids since she' ll be new to the school. Any insight is appreciated from parents of HS kids who have done winter track before. We're new to the school and don't know anyone who has done this. Thanks in advance!
