question re 1st trimester bloating vs actual bump

Anonymous
I understand the first four months aren't really "showing" but bloating, gas etc - I just look like I have a big gut. But as you do get a "real" bump does the bloating/gas extra size diminish or is there a bump plus bloating?

My bloating/gas diminished at around months 4/5.

This ALL depends on if this is the person's first or subsequent pregnancies.

I can tell you that I had NOTHING showing until week 22 of my first pregnancy. I really did not need maternity until I was 6 months.

I'm now 17 weeks with my 2nd and definitly showing a real bump. I can hardly believe it and asked my OB about it at my last week appt. First she said at 16 weeks your uterus is the size of head of cabbage, and comes just below your belly button (which takes up MUCH more space than a pear, which is still behind the pubic bone in an unpregnant uterus). There is not enough gas in the world that could cause my belly to be this big, not to mention I'm down 5lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight.

When you do start having an actual bump, it will really feel completely different than bloating, it will be very hard. I had bloating during my first trimester but in my second trimester I started having just a real hard pregnancy bump, I think the bloating sort of disappeared.
