| Were you able to find options for those programs that you used to watch? Specifically, I know my DH wants to keep it for NHL and F1 racing. Otherwise, I think we can do without as we have Netflix, Amazon, and lots of other streaming channels. Has anyone convinced their DH to drop cable? |
| I don't watch sports so can't comment on that but I find Hulu has them shows I like to watch and they're usually available the next day after it airs. I think roku and Apple TV have options for subscribing to sports stations. |
| We just tried dropping cable. We lasted for 3 weeks before we decided to get it again. It is pathetic, but I really missed my crappy Bravo TV shows, HGTV, and HBO. I watch them when I work out at home and was unable to find an alternative way to get that programming. If there is a way to get those channels and DVR programs (I do not watch anything live), then please let me know!! |
| Sling - $20/month streaming service - includes ESPN, so that provides some hockey. |
|
I don't have this myself - we just get by on Amazon Prime and Netflix, but we're not sports watchers - but is Sling TV any good? https://www.sling.com/
(Hmm, I just noticed they now have HGTV too which might alone be worth the $20 plan to me - it's my total guilty pleasure.) |

We don't watch sports.
We dropped Fios cable 4 weeks ago after they jacked up prices yet again. We got a Firestick and do SlingTV and Netflix. We got the $40 orange+blue Sling package, but will drop to the cheaper plan next month as we don't watch all the channels. They have add-ons too. |
| We're about to drop Comcast for Sling too. We were holding on for sports reasons (NFL, NBA) but now that Sling gets Comcast Sports Net we don't need cable anymore. Good riddance! |
| PP here, we've also got Netflix and an Amazon Fire Stick. |
| A lot of NFL are on the major networks, which you can get over the air, for free. May need an antenna depending on your tv and location. |
If Sling gets Comcast Sports Net for Capitals hockey, I may be able to kick Verizon Fios to the curb! |
| How does Sling work? If you got rid of FIOS cable, did you keep FIOS for phone and internet, or are there other suggestions? Would love to get rid of huge monthly Verizon bill! Thanks in advance |
Besides sling, who is your service provider and how much does that cost? We are currently with Comcast and if we move towards data only, than we are looking at $60/mo. Add sling for $20, netflix $10, and now its easily close to $90 mo. Is there a better service provider besides Verizon/Comcast? We are in the Arlington area. |
I can't speak to the other channels, but I watch HBO through HBO Now on my Roku. It's basically HBO on demand. |
Check their website! You can either get ESPN or CSN/NBCSports for $20-25, or both for $40. DH is a big Wizards fan (yes, they exist) and wouldn't drop cable until he knew he could watch their games. |
| We don't have cable, we have netflix and hulu. We also have amazon prime so we can watch videos on amazon but rarely use it. Honestly, we just stopped watching the shows that aren't available online from those sources. It sucked at first to miss out on some shows I genuinely liked but it wasn't worth the bill. We've adjusted and don't miss any of them anymore. |
