| We were told by our son's IEP team to get him a typing program so he can learn to type. Using a computer is supposed to help with some of his reading issues. Are there any good programs out there that are interesting and aren't heavy on the reading? It needs to be self driven, but he's about a year behind in his reading and he will be using computers more this upcoming year. |

My DC's liked 'Type to Learn". It is too late for this year, but the best time was in the summer. They each did 15-20 minutes every day and progressed enough each summer to keep up since they were using it during the year for this school work.
One of my DC's has LDs that making typing important but also made it harder to become proficient. Small steps add up over time so that smaller progress is better than trying to catch up in a hurry- as the skill sometimes does not stick around if automaticity was not reached. Even ten minutes in the am before school would help improve over the year. |
| i searched the app store "typing for kids" there are a few. DC chose a spongebob one (PC). Just started so I can't give feed back. |
| They do not teach typing at school? That is nuts if so. |
| Agree with Keyboarding without tears. My DC hated type to learn. |
| Typing Web is a good app - it's a free Google app. |
No, they don't but they require the kids to type by 3rd. It is nuts. |
