I am new to the area, so please forgive this question!
Taking into consideration traffic, what beach can you get to the fastest from Northern Virginia? I "need" to play in the ocean soon and only have time for a day trip. |
| The closest is 3 hours. Where are you from? |
| Ocean City or maybe Virginia Beach. Do you own a map, maybe look at maryland and virginia and see which is closest to you. |
| If you don't need an ocean, but the Bay will do, then Breezy Point Beach in Calvert County is nice. It's about an hour away. It's a sandy beach about 1/2 mile long, and as a bonus you can find fossilized shark teeth there if you look hard enough. They have a netted swim area to keep the jellyfish out, but it's not entirely effective and a few small jellyfish do slip through. |
| Yes, I have a map! I just hear nightmares about bridge traffic, so I started to wonder if Va Beach would be faster to get to or if there was a secret route locals-in-the-know take. We are in Fairfax. |
| I suggest Greenbrier State Park/Beach between Frederick & Hagerstown. It's a fantastic beach park that very few people know about. You can get there easily from Leesburg and there will not be much traffic. |
| Which is nicer? Breezy Point or Sandy Point? Nicer sand, cleaner? |
| Breezy Point on weekdays. Nicer, whiter sand. It's really nice on weekdays, but I can imagine it getting unpleasantly crowded on weekends. |

All I can say about Ocean City and that string of Delaware, MD and NJ beaches is the traffic getting there on ANY summer weekend is horrific. Whenever we have gone, we have left after the sun has set, to arrive around midnight and done the same on our departure. It is complete insanity.
So distance is one thing, getting there is completely different. |
What is this park? You have greatly peaked my interest
