| Looking for somewhere to escape for one night in late September to celebrate our anniversary (the grandparents will keep the kids; hooray!). We'd like to stay within a 2-hour drive of DC and hate driving on I-95 south. Thinking Shenandoah or the Eastern Shore but open to any suggestions. Places are booking quickly for that time of the year.... prefer to spend under $200/night if possible. A quiet B&B or small hotel with great food onsite or nearby, and places to hike or take long walks, would be perfect. Any suggestions? Thank you! |
| I recommend Omni Bedford Springs, but you would have to get a deal (priceline, groupon, etc) to keep the price in your budget. |
| Clifton Inn would be nice but also at or above your price range. Maybe find a b&b nearby and make a dinner reservation there? |
| Years ago found most places in Eastern Shore required two nights, but Cambridge house BNB did not. The only breakfast they served at the time was egg based (quiche and similar things) which my non-egg eating family found a drawback but we otherwise enjoyed our night there. Had an amazing dinner at 208 Talbot in St Michals. That was 10 years ago, but worth looking into. |
| There are lots of great deals and ideas on groupon. I saw several really nice B&Bs. |

| Savage river lodge is awesom |

Isn't the omni bedford several hours away?
In a pinch, Annapolis is nearby. So is Baltimore. |
| There's a Travelzoo for Inn at Cabin Perry that puts it in your price range http://www.travelzoo.com/hotel-booking/5607/?adid=2315778 |
| For just one night, what about skipping the drive and staying a nice boutique hotel in DC or Old Town? |
| Perry Cabin |
Doesn't that start at like $400/night? |
Yes and it isn't worth it. If you are spending 400/night you have better options. What about jumping on an early morning Amtrak and doing Philly or NYC? |
| Thanks, everyone for suggestions (OP here); I found a room at the Ashby Inn in VA that looks lovely and we should manage a little wine tasting and hiking before and after. Filing away your other ideas for the future! I had checked Groupon and Living Social but at the moment they have very few options in the mid-Atlantic that appealed to me. |
