Bonding with dog

Anonymous
My dog loves me and I love her but she definitely loves my husband more. We split walks and playtime and I'm usually the one to give her treats but she always prefers him in public. He walks away and she just freezes and I walk away and as long as she has someone else she knows she is fine. Ever since we adopted her she has preferred him. I love their bond but also want to feel like we have a special bond as well. I know some dogs prefer men and some prefer women. Any ideas on how I can grow our bond?

You need to become primary caretaker - walks, feedings, bath, brushes, training. Go to a training class with her, leave husband at home.

The dog my brother and SIL have loves my brother more. Hell, she loves ME more than she loves my SIL (I think the dog knows my brother and I are related biologically).

He does more training with her. He was always more consistent with her. If he said sit, he didn't let her do anything until she sat. He NEVER fed her from the table. He always made her "stay" at the corner before crossing the street. She views him as leader of their pack. Maybe your dog just views your husband as leader of your pack.

Does your husband earn more? Dogs smell money.

Your DH is the alpha. Dogs are pack animals. It's nothing personal.

If you want a dog that loves YOU, get an adult dog that prefers women.

My dog, that I rescued, quickly became a family dog because she fell head over heels in love with my father. She follows him around Mary Had a Little Lamb style, she sits there staring at him adoringly, and just goes crazy when he walks in the door from work. While I'm her 2nd favorite in the family, and she gives me snuggles and kisses galore, she could not care less for my mother and sisters. Despite the fact that a female found her and rescued her, my dad is her true love, and I've just learned to accept this. I know that she loves me because of how caring and affectionate she is towards me, and when I'm not doing well, she watches over me like a guard dog, but my dad will always be her #1.
