Am I the only one who thinks

That Narcan is a complete waste of taxpayer money?

I'm referring to the 26 overdoes in Huntington WV, all survived but 2 because of the use of Narcan

http://www.herald-dispatch.com/news/overdoses-reported-monday-evening/article_81990238-4a74-5431-9420-76e0f35c5cbf.html

Most of those people who were "saved" will OD again. Complete waste of money, the problem will fix itself, once all the addicts OD unless the funds are spent on education, and treatment instead of the Narcan bandaid.

Those in the article are not ODing on heroin, they're ODing on fentanyl or another substance.

Don't wish death on others, OP.

Seriously. What sort of mouth-breathing cretin does this?!

For how long are tax payers going to foot the bill for their irresponsible lifestyles ?

No, you're probably not the only wretched asshole out there that thinks this way. I suspect you'll find more of your kind anywhere Republicans congregate.

Da fuk? This thread is VILE.

Narcan is cheap as hell and provides a wake up call for many addicts.

Odds are good that someday someone you love will be an addict OP. You'll feel VERY differently when that day comes.

Thankfully, yes. You are the only one.

That's not true. My retired father (who is not an addict but is a republican) regularly helps recovering addicts find work. And if they need money dad will give them household chores. That is the republican spirit. People helping people. Because they want to and they're kind. Republicans just don't want the government to take on the chore.

I don't disagree with OP, I think the wording is a little off. I have been frustrated at the thought of my tax money going to these projects surrounding addiction. The part that bugs me is this is completely preventable from the get go. We all know drugs are bad, yet choices were made to use them. I've been prescribed narcotics plenty of times for pain, never had the desire to abuse them (if you use them as prescribed, there is no uncontrollable urge that overtakes you). I don't see myself being affected by an addict in my personal life, like a pp claims, but it is likely that I will be a victim of a crime due to someone needing money to feed their addiction. So I kind of get it, I guess--but would still rather see the funds used for other things.

You don't get it. Addicts come from all walks of life. They need help. Nobody sets out to become an addict.

I am a Republican (not sure how that entered the conversation). I have always supported legalization and treatment. I supported it even before a family friend entered into heroin addiction and then broke through with heavy family intervention and gods grace and personal strength and maybe luck to hang on one more day to make a difference. I would never wish an OD on anyone (also known tangentially people who have). Think about Prince. Elvis. The talent. Family friend is great..addiction in rearview mirror..beautiful family. Contributing to society.artistic and hardworking. Thank god for miracles and I'll take the narcam as part of it.

it's sad that you think and have to mention being a republican is similar to being a drug addict.

I agree with OP and I'm the child of an addict.
