Garmin Nuvi or TomTom?

I'm getting hubby a GPS for Father's Day. Looking at something under $300. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Definitely Garmin. My husband researched before he bought mine-Garmins are more reliable. I think he paid $160-180 for my Garmin Nuvi.

I have a Garmin Nuvi and bought my MIL a TomTom for Christmas. Between the two, I prefer the Garmin. It is easy to use and has always gotten me where I need to go. But, I will freely admit that my preference is probably built on familiarity. If it were the other way around and I had the TomTom, I might like it just as well.

I know more than one person who hated their tomtom so much they replaced it in under a year with a garmin. costco often has great prices on garmins.

I have a Tom Tom and found it easier than the old Garmins, although I have a friend with a newer Garmin and it's easy to use.

My Tom tom just died, though. It's 2 years old! I wouldn't recommend Tom Tom based on that experience.
