| My DD is starting middle school this year and I really want to meet the teachers before hand to talk about her as a learner and to make sure they start off on the right foot with her academically. I'd also like to make sure that they are all good so that I can request a schedule change if necessary before she even arrives. Will the school organize a team meeting or individual meetings with the teachers during pre-service week if I ask? How can I get this to happen? |
| Does she have special needs? This type of meeting could be arranged as part of an IEP or 504. Otherwise you could contact her counselor for a meeting. Back to school night would not be the night to discuss specifics of your child. |
| PS..I don't think you will have much luck changing a teacher just because you don't care for them before school starts. |
I'm going to call troll based on that sentence alone. You do realize that the likelihood of getting your kid's schedule moved because the teacher "is not good" by your standards is nuts, right? |
| Yep just a troll trying to get us in a tizzy |
| You do realize that pre-service week was cut by one day this year, right? So all school staff will be more pressed for time than usual. Your request for a sit down with your child who does not have SN is going to label you as high maintenance or raise red flags about your child. |
| Damn, if OP isn't a troll that is some hard-core helicoptering. |
| OP, I hope you're not a troll. You know this is a ridiculous request in public school unless your kid has and IEP or a 504. If you are in a private, then I would imagine your request would be appropriate and granted though. |
| I think it's a PTA president at an elementary school that is use to being catered to because of the PTA raising money. |
| This is ridiculous! |
| If this is real I bet this is a parent from my neighborhood. I often wonder what these moms will do come middle school. I've heard of some crazy stuff! These moms try to make sure everything is perfect for their kids from the teacher, other kids, and desk. Is it all over for them in MS? Love it! |
Please don't be THAT parent, OP. You sound like a helicopter parent. Teachers are CRAZY busy during preservice. We have required meetings (whole school, team, content) and very little time to get our rooms together. Let's not mention planning for the start of the school year - and making copies. This is our time. Remember that WE pay taxes, too. sorry for sounding like such a B, but there's plenty of time to get to know us AFTER school starts. |
You seem to have plenty of free time for social media, teacher...? |
what, right now? MCPS teachers report back next week. Teachers on social media right are posting pictures of their Pinterest elementary classrooms. |
PP probably doesn't think teachers deserve any downtime, even in summer or on weekends. |
