| What is average to expect in terms of relo package this days? |
|
depends on level.
We give college grads $5K to $10K Mid level hires get $20K Experienced mid level mgmt get package that includes house sale costs, 3 mo temporary housing, flights, title fees, 3 mo of per diem, tax true up, etc. package cost varies by person obviously but roughly $95K Executives get the same + guaranteed home buyout within 3 months of listing at predetermined FMV. Package cost usually $150K, primarily driven by higher real estate. |
| I work in academia and got $10k. |
This post is accurate in my experience. New grad I got 5K 2.5 years later moved to a different company. I got 25K cash 3 months temp housing, professional car and house content relocation, house hunting trip, flights for my family while relocating (not just a one way... there were several flights back and fourth for both me and wife) Tax true up, closing costs on new house (didn't own a home at the time so no sales side package), there was a month worth of rental car and I think a week or two worth of per diem. 5 years later relocated within the same company..... package was not as good 25K cash. 2 years later relocated again within same company.... middle of the depression (2009)... package was 25K cash + threat to be fired unless I relocated w/o complaint about the relocation amount. |
I work in academia and got 3k. My friends in academia have received similarly low packages. |
| I got a $65K package. Moving entire household, six weeks temporary housing, broker's fee for buying (not selling, though), a few other things. It barely covered our costs, difficult as that is to believe. |

Got 10k moving from manager to director level in electronics industry. Friend got 10k in investment banking industry.
Crazy packages people getting here! |
|
I got 3k incidentals
Movers including packing and unpacking Corporate housing for two months with per diem Car moved Pet moved Two trips to look at housing Three trips back to former location |
I work in academia and they paid all our moving expenses and visiting expenses for looking at houses once. Since it was a cross country move of a whole house, the cost was more like $50k. If I do it ever again though, going to ask for house sale expenses. That was the real killer. (In academia things are never fair, you can ask for anything and sometimes you get it. But you have to know/think to ask.) |
| When I took a promotion to a GS12 I got full relocation (house hunting, 2 months temporary quarters, full moving, closing expenses on my new house, home sale w guaranteed buy out, per diem, misc expenses). I think it ended up being worth about $80k. My house in a LCOL area sold for $175k. I was also 26 at the time so it seemed so awesome that I'd get that. |
