Another question for chemists (or their spouses)

Does calcium bind with fluoride somehow> If so, if I put calcium in a glass of water and let it settle to the bottom, will it effectively filter the fluoride out of the water through adsorption? TIA.

why do you want to know?

Um, OP wants to remove fluoride from water. Duh.

It's a long story. I'm testing a theory but I am totally ignorant about chemistry and biology so I want to find out if what I think is happening could be correct.

According to Google, aluminum is supposed to help fluoride cross the blood-brain barrier, whatever that is, and cause problems for the brain. I already know that calcium blocks fluoride absorption by the body but i don't know how. Does it bind with it chemically? How much? Would be an easy way to get rid of it in water? What if the aluminum in the water was already binding with the fluoride -- would that mean it wouldn't be able to bind with the calcium?

This is some 14 year old trying to get answers for their science homework.

You guys are complete idiots. Really. This is an intelligent question. Not a question of a 14 yo.

My spouse is a dentist and has always said flouride in water is not good. Check out the pediatric dental associations, the ADA, and see how they are now sloooowly starting to get away from recommending flouride. Ask yourself why.

I'm not sure what's so funny. I bought a really expensive water filter and it gave my child heavy metal toxicity. The aluminum oxide in the filter leached into the water and gave my son OCD and made him violent overnight. It's not funny, asshole. It's a nightmare.

No fluoride = big bucks for dentists! (I'm kidding - sort of.) We had well water (w/o fluoride) growing up, and I've had terrible cavities. Now I get semi-annual fluoride treatments, which aren't cheap, but seem to do the trick. I always joke with my dentist that he should bill my parents for my fillings & fluoride treatments since they didn't give me fluoride as a child and I've had so many dental problems.
