I am 5'6 and have let my weight creep up to 152 or so. I really should be at 135. But I am so hungry all the time, even though I do all the "right" things -- drink lots of water, don't drink calories, eat lots of protein, avoid sugars and white carbs, etc.
I'd love to go on phentermine for a month or 2 to jump start some weight loss and hopefully reset my appetite. Do you think a doctor would prescribe it? Do I talk to my primary care doctor (who seems like she wouldn't do it, from my experience with her) or is there some other kind of doctor that might be more open to it? I know buying it online is dangerous and risky... |

Once you learn to control your appetite its not too bad. I'm assuming you give in to your hunger because otherwise your weight woudn't be creeping up. Calories in > calories out. 17 pounds over your target weight is def not in the "I need drugs at this point" stage. Once you get off phentermine you'll be right back where you started in a couple of months (probably less), so unless your planning this as a long term strategy I would advise against it and come up with a real plan. Sorry if that sounded harsh.

| OP here. Yes, the problem is I do give in to my hunger. So my theory is, if I could jump start the weight loss and use medication to be less hungry, perhaps my body will get used to it and when I go off the medication I will be better able to control myself. |
Your theory is a stupid one. I take ADHD meds (for an actual diagnosis), and I've actually gained weight b/c even though I eat during the day, the suppression of my appetite kicks into high gear at night. I know that I need to make behavioral changes and you need to too. And you can kiss your former weight goodbye; you obviously don't have the self discipline. Make behavioral changes by not eating crap and it will take a while but your weight will start to go down. |
You are not very kind. I don't eat crap. I just get very hungry and my portion sizes are too big. I know that. So instead of having a small salad with chicken for lunch, I have a big one. Instead of a small portion of chicken at night, I'll eat a large portion. I'll eat 2 scrambled eggs with vegetables and coffee in the morning, and I am really hungry again by, say, 10 am. So I'm just hungry and unhappy until noon, when I'll then overeat a big salad (low fat dressing) with a protein. And then still be really hungry again around 3:00. I eat lots of protein; I drink lots of water. I just have a big appetite. Honestly, if I ate pizza (I don't anymore) but I know I'd be able to eat 4 pieces, no problem. I am tired of being hungry all the time and trying to limit what I eat. If I had no self-discipline, I'd probably weigh 170. Instead, I weight 150 and am STILL hungry all the time and know I need to do even better. I have heard good things about phentermine and I know some doctors do prescribe it to help jump start weight loss. |

I used to order phentermine right off the internet. It worked for a week but stopped when my body got used to it.
Save yourself money and heart harm, lose the weight the old fashioned way. Eat 5 healthy small meals a day and walk. Good luck. |

I'd rather be chubby and not hungry all the time.
Also, you probably need more fiber over all in your diet. It makes you feel fuller longer. |
|
Honestly? Try too much coffee. It's an appetite suppressant. |
| Or add a flax powder to a morning smoothie? |
| I think exercise is the key. Run off those big meals, OP, and lift weights to improve your metabolism! |
Unfortunately, I already do this. I find too much cardio (like when I'm playing hard-core tennis 3 times a week) just makes me starving. Does no one have a success story with phentermine to tell? |

There are a few weight loss Drs in the area. A quick google search will yield results.
I'm currently on phentermine. It's working nicely. I wanted it to jump start my weight loss. Once the weight is gone, I can usually keep it off. Until something happens and I go into I don't care mode--last summer my husband and I separated. It was a long cold winter and I ate for comfort. Now my spirits are up and I've been exercising since March 5x/week. I don't know how this ends but so far so good. |

Dominic Rubino MD. She's the one to see. Also, you might be surprised that your PCP might just Rx it. Start with 15 mg. I loved being in it. Life changing! |
Can you tell us more about how you feel on it, side effects etc.? |
