Affordable Movers for a 1 mile move

Anonymous
Any recommendations for an affordable mover for move within a 1 mile radius? Moving from one 2 bedroom apartment to another. We used to have a reliable two person team with a truck who would do it for under $500 but he's unavailable. Would really like to stick to that price point.

a U-haul....or just walk your furniture down the sidewalk..

I think you will have a hard time finding a professional for that price. You might be able to get some college students to do it for you if you post on craigslist or something.

When you hire movers for a local move, you're mostly paying for the loading and unloading of the truck -- the drive doesn't take much time or effort. So don't think about that one mile; think about the 2BRs worth of stuff.

Do you value your stuff? A random team off CL may not do a great job, but you can probably find someone pretty cheap (not sure about $500, but cheap).

Agree. We did a one bedroom apartment to one bedroom apartment a month ago. Distance was 8 miles between apartments and the total cost was $750. We priced out renting/driving the truck ourselves and just hiring loading help and it wouldn't be any cheaper. The vast majority of the time was spent loading the truck, it wasn't the distance of the drive between apartments that cost us money.

+1 This. You aren't going to pay that much less for a 1 mile move versus a 10 mile move. It's the time actually moving your stuff that you're paying for.

Try these guys...http://www.twomarinesmoving.com/

Not sure if they're in your price range but we used them and they were great! And on the cheaper side.

Bookstore Movers are fantastic. Not sure about their price for a job like this but I've definitely found them to be fair.

Happily used Mic's Moving in Kensington for a very local move (6 blocks). You pay by size of truck and time for them and most other movers.

Rent a U-Haul, go to a 7-eleven early in the morning and ask a few daily workers to come help you.
They will be very grateful if you pay them $75 each.

+1. I've used Bookstore Movers and would put money on that they would do this within your price range.

highly recommend, my truck buddy

they were great and very reasonably priced. If you have things well packed and ready to go that will cut down on time and reduce your costs.

+1 for Bookstore movers. Paid about 400ish for a one bedroom move. I packed everything myself though. I have used them multiple times and always pack everything in boxes prior. I never pay more than their minimum.
