DCPSs looking for a principal?

Anonymous
I am curious how many DCPS schools are looking for a principal now. Our school, Murch Elementary, is.

Isn't Janney looking as well?

No, Janney's hired someone. www.janneyschool.org has some details.

By Merry Go Round, if you mean, replace someone who resigned- then I guess yes.

Future Murch parent here -- I had heard not-great stuff about the (now former, I guess) principal. Did Rhee fire her or did she leave on her own? Any Murch parents want to weigh in? My older son will start at Murch in fall 2010, so I'm very interested in what happens there in the coming year....

Murch parent here- hi 14:00!
The principal who left resigned from DCPS. There was widespread unhappiness among parents, teachers, and staff this past year with her so it is a good thing for Murch that she left.
She was an indiscrete critic of Rhee and I do think Rhee pushed her to try to be a better principal- which seemed to bother her- working hard was not her ethos. Whether the principal left truly of her own resignation, or whether she was encouraged to resign, I do not know. I am just very glad she is gone.
The panel is interviewing candidates this week I believe for a new principal.

My question is --where is Rhee's plan to attract AND SUPPORT quality? There are very few 'perfect' professionals--especially in imperfect systems. The BEST DCPS professionals I have seen are so IN SPITE of DCPS central. When will Rhee change THIS? The merry go round is bad--even if it is people with poor work ethic. Need to work towards stability and effective, supportive systems that train, retain, and retrain great professionals.

15:02, as a DCPS parent I have similar concerns. I think our principal is wonderful, but she isn't getting any real support from the Central Admin.

I just pray our principal won't leave before my kids are done at her school.

We're doing a charter for middle school. In part because I don't find many compelling choices within DCPS, but in part because I see the damage that the constant flux causes in a school.

I wish I knew what Rhee was thinking. I see no improvements in 825 since she started. While she announced that it was "the best budget process ever" this year, there are those of us on LSRTs that would differ. Of course not to her face, 'cuz our principal might get sacked.

Thanks very much for this.

Brent's principal (a Rhee handpicked one) is out too. Don't know the story though.
