Where to stop on the way to the Outer banks?

We'd like to break up our trip down there and stay overnight somewhere. Any suggestions?

Colonial Williamsburg is a nice stopover. if your destination is further south in the outer banks (like hatteras island or ocracoke), maybe stay the night in Duck or Kitty Hawk.

We did the same and it was a lifesaver for all of us!

Yorktown could also be nice. The old part of town or a place with a view of the River. Downtown Portsmouth or Norfolk you could stay somewhere and get dinner at a waterfront restaurant.
