| If so, did it work? |
|
Sort of.
I actually have a lot more experience and education in several fields. I avoid mentioning it for a couple of reasons - keeping the resume focused and tailored towards the criteria that the employer lists, and also not to be rejected because I am overqualified. I am also an immigrant. I usually get the job. I also have learned not to do more than my own job, because I get dinged for superior performance at times. |
Understating your education and/or experience is not lying. Or at least I wouldn't consider that to be lying. Claiming educational credentials or experience that you don't have - that's lying. |
| uh no, but i was up for top security clearance. And if you think you might in the future, don't lie or exaeraggerate at lower lefe.s |
| I never, ever have. I know some people think everyone does, but I don't. |
| At my last employer, they did additional checks on facts in your resume after you passed your background check and they hired you. So a couple weeks after they hired someone, they escorted her from her office and sent around an email saying she's not allowed back on the premises. Turns out she fabricated some past experience on her resume. |
| no, it's just not worth it. |
| I never have. |
|
Yes. A lot.
Of course. It pays to do so. |
Omission of information is not a lie PP. We all have to omit info on our resume or it would be 5 pages long! |
| Not lie, but certainly I frame my experiences to make them seem more applicable to the job in which I'm interested. |
| No. But my ex-husband did this regularly when we were married. He'd get the position and then find himself in over his head because he lacked requisite skills. Needless to say, he was soon job hunting again. I suspect that he still does this because he landed a position last year that I knew he wasn't qualified to hold (we're in the same field), but was demoted after a month. |
OP you need to be more specific about what kind of lie you're talking about. DC area people have a very black & white, no gray area at all, type of view on what the definition of truth is vs. what a lie is. |
Hahaha what!? DC is filled with the most manipulative communicators in the world. "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is." -Bill Clinton |
