City of Alexandria schools -- Maury?

Hi,
We're considering a move from DC to Rosemont, but we can't get a handle on the schools. I'd appreciate any information about Maury -- and the schools in Alexandria in general.

Maury is a great school -- really turned around in the last 4 - 5 years. The Del Ray Civic Association is hosting a "State of the Schools" meeting tonight at Mount Vernon school that covers all of the Alexandria elementary schools -- you may want to call them and get a copy of the handouts.
Maury is small and has extremely active parents -- they are losing their Title 1 funding, I believe, because so many of the upper middle class families are sending their kids to Maury and they don't meet the demographics for Title 1 funding any more.
The principle is a rock star -- was transferred from Lyles Crouch in Old Town, much to the dismay of the parents there.
