Is it dangerous to take a shower during a storm?

A neighbor said she wouldn't let her kids take a bath during a storm because they could get struck by lightning somehow through the pipes and water. Is this true? I have never heard of this fear.

What is her level of education?

lol, I love dumb people until I get scared of them.

I'm not sure if it is true or an urban legend, but I grew up hearing it, and say it to my kids. On some level, it makes sense to stay away from water during a thunderstorm. On another, lightening though pipes? How does that work? I never actually thought it through...

College grad!

This was a command threat told to kids. Appears there is some truth to it, however small.

Op here--thank you! I had no idea. Sounds like the risk is very small, but possible!

OP, how do you not know this?

I would question your education, not your neighbors.

Exactly! OP and others, this is standard warning.

I grew up in Florida where the risk of getting struck by lightning is much higher. I was always taught not to shower or do dishes during a lightening storm. Just looked it up and it's apparently true. The risk is small but real.

PP who questioned the education level, you are an ass. I went to college. It certainly didn't make me smarter than many people who did not. Most city people wouldn't last a week out in the country despite the degree.

I honestly don't think I've ever faced this dilemma.

They clear the indoor pools at the gym in a storm. We were brought up not to shower or do dishes in a storm. My house was hit twice when my Mom was little so she was extremely cautious.

Exactly who is dumb here?

Sounds like you are implying (snarling) that it must be low because this is a stupid notion? If so, what is yours?
