Summer work schedule changed and now scrambling to plan a last minute summer trip the week of 8/20-27.
Thinking either Mexico or Aruba. Have been to Mexico but kids were young, now 15 and 12. Never been to Aruba. Looking at the following places: JW Marriott Cancun - we stayed at the Marriott last time and walked thru here and it looks very nice. Beach Palace - All Inclusive option. Any one ever been? Marriott Aruba Concerned about potential hurricanes in Mexico for late August where I have read that Aruba is outside the hurricane area. Which area/resort will keep teenagers the most entertained? Is there much to do in Aruba besides the beach? |
| Aruba. It's out of hurricane belt and very safe. Plus there are always trade winds in Aruba. |
| Yes, definitely Aruba. I have stayed at the Marriott Aruba and the Hyatt Aruba. Both are fine. I prefer the Hyatt because it is more centrally located for walking to dinner, etc. Your kids will like either one. |
| Aruba has great snorkeling. Water is really clear. You can do some natural sightseeing on the side of the island away from the hotels. |

Both are fine. Cancun is a great deal late August because of the minuscule hurricane risk that drives overly cautious people away.
For me, Aruba is better for couples, Cancun for families...far more all-inclusives to choose from in Cancun with tons of activities. For what you save in booking Cancun, you can pick up cheap trip insurance (around$125) if you're worried at all. |
