1) Is the hospital as good as GUH? I read that the hospitals were associated. And,
2) Which doctor, in your opinion, is the best? I would probably have to do a c-section, but would be amenable to a vbac. TIA! |
| For a potential VBAC at VHC, your best choice would be Dr. Tchabo, no question. He is extremely supportive and skillful with VBAC (and c/section, for that matter). He is the head of teaching there. |

I have no opinion on whether or not VHC is as good as Georgetown.
I agree with the previous poster - for VBAC at VHC you would want to have Dr. Tchabo. He was my OB for two pregnancies - he was recommended to me at first by a friend who is a nurse. There are a lot of threads on here about his practice, the wait times, etc. but I was a very satisfied customer and would recommend him to anyone. He is very knowledgeable, caring, reliable, dedicated, and hard-working. He is always at the hospital. He delivered my first child (vaginal delivery with a minor complication) and was present at the delivery of my second child (vaginal delivery by a resident with him looking on, no complications). I had an episiotomy both times; the first time he sewed me up and the second time, he didn't seem to like the job the resident was doing so he finished it up. I trust him completely and think he's a great doctor and wonderful man. |
| I have had a c-section and a VBAC both performed by Dr. Jane Piness and I thought she was wonderful for both deliveries. I would definitely recommend delivering at VHC. |
| I don't live in DC anymore but Dr. Piness was my OBGYN for several years and I delivered my first son with her via c-section (planned - he was breech) at VHC. Very happy with how everything went with her and the overall experience at VHC. I can't speak to the comparison, however. |
| I loved VHC! I had Elliott and Lashgari and thought they were great (much better than the practice I went to for DC1 at another hospital). Elliott delivered me and was super, especially when we ran into some minor complications. I did not have a VBAC, but due to some other issues, may have had to have a C. They and the nurses worked hard with me to help me have the vaginal birth I wanted. |
| As to the relationship between the two hospitals, I do know that Georgetown students do their residency at VHC but I don't believe that means the hospitals are affiliated in any way. |
