Ideas for a no kids, short trip in Oct?

Anonymous
Celebrating anniversary, but want to go someone we wouldn't take kids.
Must be short flight away or could be drivable, but again, hoping for something different from the usual.
We are on a budget and we can only be gone 2-4 days.
This will be late October, so I would prefer warmer or equal weather to DC, not colder.
Any recommendations?
We like to drink, hike, or see beautiful scenery.

Thanks (OP here).
We've been to Asheville, but it's the right idea!

There's no scenery near Memphis.

Every fall, we rent a place to hike and relax w/o the kids. Over the last few years, we've done Lost River, WV, Berkeley Springs, WV, Ohiopyle area, PA, Charlottesville, and Staunton. For WV and Ohiopyle, we rented cabins and did a mix of cooking and eating out. For Charlottesville and Staunton, we got a hotel room and ate out the whole time.

All of these are diving trips and can be budget friendly.

What is beautiful scenery to you? Natural or manmade architectural buildings?

We went up to Jim Thorpe, PA.
We are thinking of doing Watkins Glen, NY. That sounds nice up there and the drive is about 6 hrs. Foilage time is around Oct.

South Beach in Miami. Direct flights from DCA on American. Stay on Collins Ave.

We did Albuquerque and Santa Fe for a long weekend last November. Was warm during the day and cool at night. Went on a hot air balloon ride, which was awesome. And then went to the spa and did some hiking.

New Orleans is so much fun without kids

We did Burlington, VT. I know you said warmer not cooler, but it was such a great weekend trip -- so easy to fly into town and beautiful foliage.
