Caribbean or Mexico in early November? Or...

Kids want to go to the beach. They prefer Caribbean beaches with calm, clear water.

Husband doesn't want to be stuck at a resort. He gets antsy. We need to be able to go off property for restaurants, sightseeing, etc...ideally someplace safe enough to rent a car and wander around.

Resort or condo resort/property would work.

Doesn't have to be 5 star. 4 or a super nice 3.5 would be fine.

Doesn't have to be AI, but open to it.

Yes, I know early November could mean a hurricane.
