Neuroscience bill came for my ADhD DS

So MY DS goes to a psychologist for his ADHD. (We have a new insurance plane this year). We got the bill and its says $125.00 Insurance paid 0.00 . We thought we meet our CO-PAY but I guess we didn't. is $ 125.00 normal for a yearly check up for his ADHD and his medication?

If you're discussing medication, do you mean psychiatrist? At any rate, $125 is more than reasonable -- I would consider that cheap.

Perhaps this was part of a deductible? Or falls under co-insurance vs. co-pay benefits?

Insurance is really a wild-wild-west scenario for consumers. It's just awful.

I doubt $125 is the full charge. Does your health insurance plan have coinsurance?

That is so cheap. I think many providers charge $350

DH said he thought deductible was $500.00 but maybe its 500 per person. but he spend 400 or 300 dollars back in the winter when we went to the doctor because he was sick. and now this. so we at the deductible amount.

If you have coinsurance, you are splitting the bill with the insurance company (and paying a copay) until you have paid up to each person's deductible. It is a relatively new and crappy health industry term.

If you met your deductible in the winter, that was 2015... you are now into a new calendar year for deductibles.

You should receive an Explanation of Benefits from the insurance company. It will show the amount charged, the amount covered by insurance and the amount you owe. It should also show how much went towards the deductable. Always look at them carefully, doctors and insurance companies make a lot of billing errors.

Well you need to check what your deductible is, my dear.
DS's psychiatrist charges $140 for each visit, and right now we're doing monthly visits. Ugh. No insurance reimbursement!

This is why we got out pediatrician to prescribe the meds once we decided what our DD needs to be on. Actually after 2 years her meds haven't changed and the peds office doesn't charge the copay monthly anymore, just sees her every 6 months, co pay for a med check. Significantly cheaper than the specialist.

hmm. DD sees the prescribing psychiatrist every 3 months for a check up and new meds. We pay a $15 copay. Anthem BCBS PPO.

i'm intrigued to see that some people on here are able to get six months or a year's worth of meds at a time. Our insurance will not allow that.

NP here. What psychiatrist takes BCBS? Since it's Anthem, can I assume you are not in the DC area?

I'm intrigued by a psychiatrist who actually takes insurance! Please share the name of this medical paragon .

We are in DC but I work for a NY-based company. It's Anthem BCBS. Sorry I forgot the Anthem in the initial note.

Georgetown University. We see Dr Yoder. We also see a psychologist in the practice.
