Unaccompanied minor + Global Entry?

Anonymous
DS is 11 & will travel as an unaccompanied minor for the first time to fly into IAD from overseas. He has Global Entry. Does anyone know if he can use his Global Entry card while traveling as an unaccompanied minor? Unaccompanied minors are blocked from using airline clubs etc, so not sure if the rules are different for Global Entry too.

Did you call IAD or the TSA # and ask? That would be the first thing I would do instead of posting on an anonymous forum.

I would call the airline and ask. You don't use a global entry card anyway - you use the kiosks with your passport and fingerprints. Has he done that process before and is he familiar with it? If not it might be a little challenging.

The airline clubs are totally different. Unless your DC is a member, or flying first or business class, he won't be allowed in. That isn't age related, same would be true of a spouse. My DC went into the club while traveling solo but he was in international business class so that's what got him in.

DS has used GE plenty of times with us, but is too short to register the camera so always needs to go to the front of the immigration line after attempting the cameras. I haven't tried calling because we are currently overseas and have a crappy skype connection and no desire to spend 30 mins getting the run around from CBP/homeland security on an overseas call. Just hoping that someone else might have been thru\ough this. We will ask the steward/ess that is supposed to accompany him once we get to the gate.

FYI, re. clubs, unaccompanied minors don't get to go in even if they're holding business/first class tix, at least on United. They have to stay at the gate with the agent. Stinks.

Make sure that you do not pay to have the minor escorted. I recently tried to book travel for my son who was 15 3/4 and the airline would not let me do it. I had to pay the fee ($150)

American Airlines would do it but United would not. I had no choice as the timing of the flight was better on United.

we came back from UK recently with our 11 year old and he had no problem getting the camera down to his height - more of challenge was going thru and answering the questions - he was nervous he'd make a mistake - he did fine but said he was glad to have me there to help. The global entry part was for lines not the machines.
