When does the next podcast come out? Do you think they’ll actually have solid info?

No.

It is so easy for a kid who does the right work at home consistently to be in the top half or top third or top 10% of their class or team.
Because most kids are dialing it in and doing the bear minimum.

Holding your kid back to give them an early appearance of an advantage is laziness.

Wednesday. What are the odds they address age changes in any way?

There will be a new class of trapped players, but they will be trapped in a a different way. Possibly players born in August or September who would be in 11th grade would be forced to play with a majority 10th grade team. (Our school year includes kids born 1 October as the oldest players to the end of September --not 1 AUG to 31 JUL.) But if they define a school year as 1 August to 31 July, then the new trapped players will be the kids born in August or September. Since, they will be a year older, they will miss the prime showcase and recruitment period. They will be at a disadvantage for college recruiting and miss the prime window. Where as the previous 'trapped players' got to go through that process a year earlier (as 10th graders on their majority 11th grade team participating in showcases). There was a long thread on how those forward thinking families used that to their advantage and to commit to college 1 year early when compared to their older peers. (Thusly, trapped players were committing to college a year earlier. But now, they may miss that opportunity all together.

Potentially in an attempt to help out 4th QTR kids, they are putting Aug and Sep kids at a disadvantage in some states that do not include Aug or Sep in their defined school year class.

There will still be trapped players.

I think the 9/1 date is actually the optimal choice. With that said you are misusing the term trapped. Trapped is about not being and to play down with your birthrate assigned grade. The choice to play up is always a choice.

To be clear, let's keep in mind we are really just talking about recruiting/showcase issues for August birthdays who cannot make the top team with their graduating class, but could presumably make it if you eliminated the oldest four months from their recruiting class. So, in an effort to help out four months of kids with a myriad of trapped issues, we are hurting the recruiting chances of some marginal A/B players from one month (two months in a couple states).

Agree with PP. We need to be careful about the term trapped. Lots of emotion related to created a new class of 'trapped' player but its a fallacy. Currently Q3/Q4 are trapped with zero options to join their recruiting class. Everyone familiar with the situation agrees its a horrendous setup. Regardless of where age cutoffs land, a couple months worth of kids will have options. Play down or play with your classmates. Keeping in mind those classmates are who you're competing with for scholarships anyway so you really should play up. If you want to start off playing down with a lower class then go ahead and build up confidence for some time and switch later. All routes that current Q4 kids don't have available. Its not remotely the same thing.

These are poor arguments. They make no sense. We have 5 months of players who are now trapped and people want to pretend its fake so they can maintain the age advantage for their kids. Gross.

I’ve got an 8/3 kid who went on time. But she’s the only one on her team that went in time.

The problem is given state cutoffs for when you can start kindergarten it's only 4 and sometimes 3 months. I totally agree in going to SY but calling an August kid that was "intentionality" held back when their local is 9/31 (VA) is a little disingenuous.
