does anyone get creeped out by father references in religion?

So a lot of people from my home town are very Christian in a strange sort of way. They talked a lot about saving, and their father, and it just rubs me the wrong way. Like a good friend from high school got married and a attendee wrote this:

Congrats to the most beautiful bride of Christ! You are a perfect picture of Christ's redemptive power. How much joy I've had watching you run into your Daddy's arms. The beauty I see on the outside pales to your beautiful heart, mind and soul. You literally jump for joy!!! May your birthday be a time when your Daddy whispers to you how deep and how long and how wide His love is for you.

This makes no sense to me because she married her husband and he is no ones daddy? It just grosses me out. I strive to be tolerant of all religion and all lifestyles but something about this sec of religion is hard for me to understand.

What religion? I've never heard "daddy."

Have never heard this either.

what the what?? This is seriously weird and I come from a religious family.

I admit I've always found it weird how evangelical denominations place a lot of emphasis on your dad holding the key to your virginity and giving you a promise ring and such.

This is weird. I'm a Christian and God is our father, (Jesus even referred to the father as "Abba" the more informal Word for "Father," akin to "Papa." It suggests a close, loving Father who cares for us). But that's a weird message. Creeps me out too.

Was it for a wedding, or a birthday? The part you quote says birthday.

A family acquaintance went off the deep end, moved to Alabama and immersed herself in a hardcore religious community. They referred to God as "Daddy." I'm sure if you googled a bit you could find references.

"Daddy" is not a common reference to our Father.
So that speech was definitely creepy. Speaker wanted to stand out probably.

I'm sorry but that has GOT to be someone trolling. How deep, how long, how wide his love is? That's someone screwing with a super religious person.

Very unusual posting and reference to God the Father as "daddy." Is there some context missing from this post?

+1

I've never heard this. I don't deny it exists, but it's well outside the mainstream.
