When did you stop cutting cherries for your kids?

My friend made fun of me for cutting them for my 2.5 year old . I'm wondering if I'm helicoptering.
Anonymous
I would still cut them.

My 3.25 year old can now manage to spit out pits, but it makes me nervous, so if I'm not up for close supervision, I still pit them. IDK, I am someone who gives her, like, knives and stuff, but choking makes me nervous.

I don't ever cut them, I use a cherry pitter.

If it's pits you're worried about, I stopped around 3.5. Then I started again, because even at 6 he looks like a vampire after cherries with pits. I also use a cherry pitter that does 4 at a time.

Yes it's the pits I'm worried about so I cut them. Never heard of a cherry pitter

My kidi s 4 and I still cut them....I dont want her starting to spit them out at the table......

We never cut them - we pit. My kids still periodically swallow a pit and they are 5 and 6.

My kids are 8 and 9 - we still pit. Swallowing is a concern but also biting down hard on a pit. My friend's kid did this and broke his tooth!

I cut them for my 5yo because I don't have a pitter. She won't eat them otherwise but loves them and it's not really very hard.

You are not helicoptering. Do you know how many children choke on foods such as grapes, hotdogs, cherries etc a year? Keep cutting, ignore your friend.

Cutting spherical, airway-sized food for a 2 year old is not helicoptering. It's a recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics based on the large number of preventable, and sometimes fatal, choking episodes in this age group.

+1. Choking is terrifying and avoidable. You are being a responsible parent. Ignore the friend and keep cutting.

I cut them for myself and I'm 40. Pits are a PITA.
