Considering a December trip to Martinique with our 2nd and 3rd graders. I speak ok tourist French, but nothing great. Any suggestions on where to stay? The Club Med reviews are so/so. I'm ideally seeking nice accommodations and easy access to dinning. That could be an all inclusive (though I don't think there are many) or a home rental and we cook for ourselves. Also, any ideas on things to do beyond beach / pool / snorkeling? It looks like Saint Pierre is worth a visit. What else? Thanks!
I would probably go for the safety of Club med, unless you already know people there.
We went for spring break and loved it. Rented an apartment in Anse a l'Ane, very near the beach. Visited one of the sugar cane plantations, hiked in the rain forest, explored Les Salines, as well as so many beaches. Didn't cook much, but had a great kitchen and grocery nearby. The island is 100% French, but you will get by with basic French.
My husband and I were at the Club Med in February. It was 98% French with great food, simple but clean accommodations and an incredible amount of fun activities. I would go back in a heartbeat. We also explored the island: it's beautiful, fairly easy to navigate. Also, absolutely no concerns about safety compared to some other islands.
