Daycare teacher says DD whines alot

Anonymous
My daughter has been scratched 3 times in the last 6 weeks - The teacher told me today that she thinks my DD gets "picked on" because she whines alot. She has also said the same thing about at least 2 other kids in the class. I was really annoyed with her comment as I know she doesn't pay much attention to the kids when they are outside playing - she spends most of her time chatting with the other teachers and basically ignoring the kids. I also know that DD whines when she's bored, and I don't think they center is doing enough activities with the kids. They basically just give them toys and say "here, go play". I feel like that teacher could prevent some of these incidents if she spent less time talking and more time being a teacher. I'm wondering if I should bring this up to the center administrator? I'm afraid I will sound like a nagging helicopter mom. My DH says I'm expecting too much, am I?

No, you are not expecting too much. Talk to the teacher and/or director. If they do not address your concerns, find a better daycare immediately. You do not have to put up with it. We had to do the same thing and found a daycare we really like. Not all daycares are going to meet your needs -- it all comes down to how much the teachers care about the kids and it sounds like these teachers are lazy.

No, you're not expecting too much. Instead of blaming the victim, the teacher should be focusing on redirecting the aggressors. I know it's hard, but I would try to find another center. Attitudes like this among teachers are pretty hard to change.
