My husband and I, and our one year old daughter are moving to the area in the next month or so and I wanted to figure out the right listserv to get on. Should I be joining any specific one for Murch Elementary even though it'll be a few years before my daughter attends or are there others for this area? I've also seen a Chevy Chase one but just wanted to get some guidance. I'm pregnant with my second and will be staying home for a number of months so finding friends and playgroups is a must!
Many thanks for the advice! Elizabeth |

Hi! Welcome to the neighborhood.
There is a Tenleytown yahoo group and a Murch yahoo group. I cannot remember if you have to join the Tenly one through an admin but there is an admin for the Murch list. You will need to say what your connection is to the neighborhood/school. I think there is a list for Chevy Chase DC, but am not familiar with it. Others here can help. There may be other groups for families with younger kids but we weren't in the area when ours were young so i would ask about that too. Also, you are likely to meet a lot of people if/when your kids go to pre-school/daycare. |
| The CCDC one is run by a rather, um, fastidious moderator who will tell you if you can join by your own address. Where do you live exactly? |
| The Murch listserv you need to have a child who is attending but that listerv only gets a one or two posts a week if that. You are probably close enough for the Cleveland Park one, which is a fabulous source of community information. |

List serves: Murch, Chevy Chase, Cleveland Park, and Tenleytown. All will be relevant.
Also check out the Forrest Hills Connection on line news magazine. |
+1 but the Murch one is very low traffic. Sign up for the newsletter if you want more school news

Chevy Chase and Cleveland Park listservs both are massively higher volume than Murch's. I would say CC Listserv is probably the best one for information on Murch, though you could sign up for several and sort them into a subfolder (Cleveland Park and CC can be overwhelming in volume at times).
And yeah the CC moderator is . . . intense. |
| Thank you all- this is great!! |

I actually find the CP list moderator to be intense as well.
That said, it is a great source of information. |
| It depends on where you live. You can check groups.io for the Chevy Chase listserv, Tenleytown listserv, AU Park Parents listserv. If you are closer to Connecticut Ave than Wisconsin Ave, the listservs may be slightly different (ex. Someone said Cleveland Park). There are also Facebook groups like Chevy Chase Chatter. As others have said, you probably can’t join Murch groups until your child is enrolled. |
Yahoo no longer supports listservs. Many migrated to groups.io |
