Building a new home, how big to make the dining room, home is 7-9000sf

How big would you make the dining room?

The architect has made is 14 x 22 but we think its a waste of space and want to make it smaller.

What does everyone think?

I think 7-9000 sf is mind boggling. I cannot fathom how you will fill that much space:

thanks, but what about the dining room?

You need to have a very large dining room, probably twice the size the architect is recommending.

This is so it can accommodate the table that will seat a minimum of 16 so that you and your spouse can sit on opposite ends to dine.

And, so there is plenty of space for the servants to move about.

How many max people will you seat? Will you do a long rectangular table or a circle?

What will you do with that space if not a dining room? How many people will you host for holidays? Figure out the size table you want and go from there.

And butler's pantry off dining space. So convenient.

Everything in the house is too big, but if you are going to do that, the dining room is in proportion to the size of the house. I'm sitting in my living room which is 13x20, and this would work as a dining room with an extra long table (or table with many leaves) plus servers, etc.

We already have that thanks!

14x22 is definitely not too large for a home of that scale. Sounds somewhat small to me. I would listen to the architect though.

Listen to architect. Absurd to make it a little room in giant house.

building 5-7k sq foot home and wondering the same, we are going to go on the smaller side b/c we spend way more time in the kitchen/eating area (not dining room)/den. Things seem much more casual these days and i want rooms we will use.

OP here, I have been browsing anv's largest manor homes section in the 10sf range and the dining rooms are not that large (13 x 15, 13 x 17 etc...)

I don't think a 10-11K SF home needs a large dining room.

On the other hand the dining rooms do get bigger on the 15K SF homes and larger

What will you do with the saved space?
