Most pretentious name you've heard?

When I hear parents trying to twist obvious boy names into a name for their girl I assume they were types to be picked last in sports. It’s not pretentious, just sad.

Agree with all of these except Ashleigh/Lynleigh/Brynleigh, which don't sound pretentious -- they sound like this embarrassing trashy Utah names.

The rest, though, yes. Especially Salinger and Guinevere.

But...but... she had green eyes!

I am married to an IV and mother to a V so this actually *is* a family thing, how is this pretentious?

Ridiculous does not equal pretentious.
Generic, Christian names do not equal pretentious.

Pretentious is "expressive of affected, unwarranted, or exaggerated importance, worth, or stature."

You're welcome.

Like the name Penny ?

Is Penny pretentious? Right now Penelope nn Penny is at the top of our list (after an old family friend of mine who was like a grandmother to me when I was a girl). It feels like a good mix since Penelope is more formal and could be used professionally later in life but Penny feels bright and unassuming to us, the opposite of pretentious.

Just surprised to see it mentioned in this thread and wondering why!

The name Penny is terrible. Use the nickname Nellie instead.

Vastly prefer Penny to Nellie. Neither are pretentious.

I like Penelope and Penny is cute. Don’t let this thread dissuade you PP who has it on your list.
