Do you think Trump just handed Elon DOGE out of the goodness of his heart? No. It was part of the secret plan with Johnson he kept teasing, but has interestingly never revealed.

When a politician wins an election, it is customary for them to reward their biggest donors and fundraisers with sinecure jobs. I think Trump also sensed that Elon was a bit of a sucker, so he essentially set him up to fail by letting him “go wild” with DOGE, fully intending to let him take the fall after it became too controversial.

Musk needs cover to go back into the private sector and get all the Trump haters off his back, and for people to resume buying his cars. what better way than to break ranks with Trump.
