It seems that all the pps arguing that HS coaches matter in recruiting go to private schools with well established, prominent lax programs. My daughter went to a public HS, and all of the coach contacts during recruiting was with the club coach. College coaches want to talk to a coach that knows talent and provides an honest assessment, i.e. won’t oversell a player. Public high school talent in the DMV is scattered, so college coaches typically seek feedback from the club. Top 20 ranked private school programs are a different animal.

You need to get to their camps, send videos, etc. hs coaches spend more time with players than travel coaches do. Majority of coaches are connected through hs and college, if you don’t realize this, you don’t understand the lax world. If your relying straight on a club coach, you’re also missing out.

I’ve had multiple D1 athletes play this sport. I think I know what I’m talking about. Their college coaches never contacted their HS coaches - ever - during recruiting. You say the “majority of coaches are connected through HS and college.” If you think coaches at BI, PVI, SJC, Oakton, Riverside, Potomac (all of whom have / had D1 commits) are connected with college coaches, you don’t know the DMV lax world at all. Of course players need to go to camps. Of course they need to send videos. Of course the kid has to be a great player and have a good attitude. But if your kid isn’t on a club that will give him / her good exposure during the summer tournaments, and you’re relying heavily on your HS coach to get your kid recruited, odds are you and your kid will be disappointed in the end. Truth hurts. Sorry

Wrong. Coaches at PVI, BI, SJC, Oakton, Potomac, Riverside (all of whom have had strong players go to D1 schools) do not have college connections. Players were all recruited through their respective clubs.

I dont believe that was the advise at all. In fact, it was contrary to it, but to ignore or downplay the role that good HS coaches play in the process is moronic. College coaches have hundreds of kids they can pick from -- why wouldnt they ask the coach that knows them best and sees them play everyday? Whoever this ^ poster is, has an opinion that will not be swayed. As evidenced here by many posters whose daughters have gone thru the recruitment process, the HS coaches were NOT contacted at all in their experience (and ours), and in one case 1 coach was contacted out of many schools persuing the student. Facts are clear, HS coaches unless iconic, are not contacted. And, the icons are the ones to reach out vs being contacted by the college coaches. College coaches do not spend their time talking to high school coaches, period. The people on this post are speaking from real experience not opinion.
