APS black student singled out to play cotton picking game

Each school has school based subs, they are paid a little more than a regular subs because they show up like it’s a full-time job (not day to day). They don’t always know where they’re going to be assigned each day, there are assigned based on need.

So the kids are sometimes getting a school-based sub, sometimes having study hall... but in either case not learning any French at all? I'd be so mad if my kid was in that class.

Core classes are always going to get preference for school based subs and given the shortage I'm sure they are in use elsewhere every day.

Maybe those families should sue since they’re not learning French now.

I don’t have personal knowledge of how they are staffing this class, but just wanted to explain that even if there’s not a replacement long-term sub, there are options for subs in the school.

But those options aren't going to be teaching them French.

Have there been any updates or further developments?

They probably still working on the terms of the settlement. Of course APS will want as much damage control. Like when the paid off the little black girls family who got her dreadlocks cut off by the white boys, she had to retract her story.
Hopefully Justin will make sure his clients settle with more dignity.

The dignity ship sailed when they filed a $10 million lawsuit against APS.

Is there a lawsuit? I thought they were just asking for money at this point...

I think you're right. It was like a ransom demand. IIRC it was give us $10 million or we'll file a lawsuit

If this is the incident of which I am thinking, that was a private school, not APS, and there's no indication that she was lying when she said she was lying.

In the case of this particular substitute teacher, deep in the bowels of this thread she's reported to be a woman from one of the French-speaking countries in sub-Saharan Africa. So the class did have a chance of instruction before the kid and his parents decided to fire up the outrage machine. I'm not sure if the admin got antsy and reassigned her or she decided that life's too short and the pay's too small to deal with that level of nonsense.

If a black woman can be called racist for using cotton balls in a game then I'd be surprised if she or any other French teachers stick around that school.

I still want to know if the family was actually living in Arlington. It seems like it would be fairly easy to prove and if they weren’t residents, this is an open and shut case.
