| How do you handle lunch? Do you every day tell your nanny what DC should/can have - and if so what kind of things do you leave? Or does your nanny just prepare whatever she chooses from what you have and know is ok - and if so what kind of things does she prepare? And how old is your child in these scenarios? Thank you!! |
| You've got to be clear about what you'd like your child to be given for lunch. I think the big issue is where lunch happens sometimes nannies do lunches on the go and its usually fastfood. If lunch is always in your home and you do the grocery shopping you can't go wrong. |
| My daughter is 1 and we try to feed her only organic foods. We keep the house stocked with fresh or frozen veggies, pasta, fruit, cheese (string cheese/cottage cheese), egg, chicken, etc. Our nanny chooses among what we have available and prepares a healthy lunch of protein, veg, starchy carb and fruit. She will do light food preparation, including steaming veggies/boiling pasta. For more involved cooking, I prepare the food ahead and refrigerate/freeze portions. |

Our nanny takes the kids out or prepares lunch for the twins. They are 2.5 years. Honestly, she feeds them better than we do. Even when they eat lunch out, she chooses healthy options. I see the receipts so I know what the kids are eating.
My twins have been introduced to different fruits, veggies and cheeses than we would have ever given to them. They even eat brussel sprouts which I wouldn't touch! She's on top of it. I will say before her we had a horrible nanny. Every day I had to make our oldest child's lunch and leave it. Go with your instincts, if you feel your nanny can't handle the decision then I would prepare your dc's lunch. Good Luck! |
| This sounds like a good topic for the Nanny Discussion forum. |
OP here - thanks for the replies. I debated between this forum and the Nanny Discussion one and went with this one because it's not really a question about nannies, but about what moms/dads do for lunch in their absence. Maybe it should be on the Nanny forum though! |
