A reasonable choice. He certainly knows the game, he grew up in the area and has a good set of connections through his Georgetown experience and his father.

Did they fire Horning? Giblin bails when he knows he has no studs left and then throws Horning under the bus. Typical from a plastic school.

Interesting hire.

His resume looks pretty weak.

Let me guess your super strong lacrosse resume:

1. Dad
2. Sideline expert
possibly
3. Played in the 70s or 80s when anyone from this area could play Division I

Here's my super strong lacrosse resume:

1. Excelled at prep school lacrosse more than I ever could have at football or basketball.
2. Played D 1 lax and got some run.
3. Back in DC area working in commercial real estate using prep school connections and making coin.

Sounds like the life of a prep or Gonzaga alum to me

he was let go by the head Priest. Not Danny Paro.

Urich spent Ten years as a D1 (Georgetown ) offensive coordinator, played 9 years in MLL, and has more recently started a D3 program in the area. NOt sure how much stronger a CV you could want!.

He has a great lacrosse resume.

But he has no experience in running a high school program and all that that entails.

He is going to have attract good players. That means building relationship with middle school coaches (school and Club).

He may have to create his own feeder program like Club Blue or somehow take that over.

He is going to have to have Summer Camps or staff the current ones.

He is going to have to get assistants who work long hours for little money that will fit-in in Prep's unique environment. Because he is now to the school, he is not connected to the alumni that might reasonably be a source of these assistants. The new STA coach has deeper GPrep-roots than does Urick.

He is going to have to compete for Athletic Department resources/money.

He is going to have to compete with other programs (Athletic and non-Athletic) with Admissions and Financial Aid.

Lacrosse knowledge is the least of his worries. It's all the other stuff.

And who knows how good a bench coach he is.

This is a significant challenge because of how high the bar has been set.. I'd give the guy 3 or 4 years to get the program up to speed and it may never get to where Giblin had it because of increased competition and other factors.

Prep boosters: please stop making excuses for why your program has been on the downward trend. Afterall it is HS sports.

Programs have their ups and downs.

Not in the real world.

Programs at the top pretty much remain there as do programs at the bottom over a period of years.

When was the last time DeMatha basketball was down?

For the good programs, a down year is second place or maybe third with close loses. Not fourth place while enduring a season of embarrassing loses in the conference.

The "real world?" This is high school sports we are talking about... as well as skewed priorities.

Not top echelon WCAC football or basketball which has quite a few D 1 athletes, but prep schools filled with wealthy parents trying to keep up with the Joneses and live vicariously through their lax kid, who may aspire to play lax in college, but would likely have a hard time making a WCAC football or basketball squad.
