Lifetime Fitness Swim Team

Anonymous
I have been looking into swim teams for my nine year old son. A friend mentioned that it might be cheaper to join Lifetime Fitness and have him join their team. Do any of you have experience with the Lifetime Fitness Swim Team? Is the instruction good? We would join either the Fairfax location or Reston location. Thanks!

Another question... How much does it cost to join Lifetime? We probably would want a family membership. And, how much extra is Kids Academy there?

It's best to call the club about the membership and fees questions. I think membership is $100 or more a month but it really does depend on what you add on to it.

It seems more like instructional and not competing, they are not part of PVSL so if they have meets they wouldn't be sanctioned by US Swimming and probably just against teammates.

A family membership at Lifetime is somewhere in the $250/month range. Swimming on their team would be additional.

Membership for us is $240 per month at Reston (2 adults, 2 kids). They are very inconsistent in pricing, everybody pays a different amount.

The facilities are great, but the management sucks and frankly it's not a good value at the prices they ask. But hey, for us, it's right near our house.

Swim team at the Jr level is 80 per kid per month for 2 days per week (choose among M, T, Th, and Fri) year round, an extra 80 per month for the summer program.

The swim team is at the Sterling club, it's part of the NVSL. They are sanctioned, you're competing against Loudoun County pools. Other clubs (i.e. Reston) have branches but it's not quite a real program. The head instructor (Joclyn) is awesome if you go to Sterling, but our gym has teen life guards teaching. Some are OK but not real instructors. Still, we're paying for convenience.

This is not true. They are indeed a sanctioned USS team. They compete in Potomac Valley meets just like all the other year round teams in the area.

To be honest main focus is only on the very highest level of swim teams there - I would look elsewhere for better learning and prepping for real competitions
