It is thoughtless to have one cat, cruel to declaw

Summer vacation time. Saw a couple of cats left alone in empty houses. They are so lonely.

If you are going to have cat, have two.

And I despise people who declaw their cats.

Some (many?) cats are happier as only cats. I have two cats, both adopted, and their feelings for each other range from studied indifference to red-hot rage and hatred that leads to bloodshed. They would both be better off as only cats, but that train has already left the station.

I don't think cats should be left alone for summer vacations, but that's a much different issue than having an only cat vs. multiple cats.

You are a dunce, OP. Cats can handle being left alone while their owners go on summer vacation. Sheesh.

I agree with the declawing though.

How did you "see" this? Are you a pet sitter or something? Or a high school kid?

Yawn.
Better than living in a kennel or cage for the rest of its life.

We had two cats and they hardly tolerated one another. Now that one has died, the other seems just fine being the only cat in the house.

As for declawing, considering the overpopulation of cats in shelters, I think it's better to provide a home and declaw than to let the cat be euthanized.

Just clip the nails!

Do you have cats, OP?

My older cat HATES my younger cat, who we got as a kitten last year to keep the older cat from feeling "lonely." The older cat has attacked the younger cat multiple times, and when no one is home, we separate them so that the older one won't hurt the younger one.

The older cat would have been happier alone, but too late now.

Speaking of this, my friend is going out of town for 18 days. She asked me to check in their cat. I live 5 min away so I'm happy to help.....she asked me to stop by once a week....

I can't believe it. I told her I have time to visit a little more often, and is that ok? She said yes of course.

How often do you think I should go hang out with kitty?

(I'm a sahm of 2, with a dog and cat if my own, who get a little neglected themselves by virtue of the kids taking most of my time).

Of course the cat can handle it, but the ones I visited definitely long for attention. If you are a cat person, you will notice.

So you should never complain about your life - since you are not living in a 3rd world country working in a sweat shop.

I would visit every day. It is terribly lonely to be shut in a house without interaction for a week.

Of course they do. So what? Do you think every single day should be perfect?
