I am considering purchasing a Pruis, but I am concerned about potential maintenance costs. For those Prius owners out there, do you find that the maintenance and repair costs for a Prius are significantly higher than other non-hybrid cars (for example, Honda Accord or Toyota Camry)?

We bought ours in Jan 06 and it has never needed to go in for anything except for an oil change.

bump. Thank you PP. Anyone else?
You should check the car forums on Edmunds or other car websites. You will find much more info that you could ever find on this parenting site.
We've had our for 3 years and not had anything more than regular oil change.
Had mine for 2 years now and despite being chronically bad about taking it in for scheduled maintenance, she's never given me any problems.
No. We bought our first Prius in 2004 and now have two, an '05 and an '07. Neither has had any problems.
Bought ours in Feb 2006, are also terrible about scheduled maintenance, have never had any problems. I should really take it in for some preventative care, though -- bad car owner!

our neighbor just bought a new prius they love it not even first payment someone hit (no note of course) the back of it getting out of the parking area. The main battery is in the rear of the prius and the car wouldn't start. They had it towed today. I presume they will get it fixed and park away from some of our binge-drinking wanna-be-yuppie neighbors.
But, my husband also has a prius for two years now and he loves it. Luckily, he has not been hit but we park in the same parking area. So, I am sure it's just a matter of time. |
