Florida Gulf Coast Resorts

Can anyone recommend a nice resort on the Florida Gulf Coast? My husband and I are looking for a long weekend away without the kids. Thanks!

Watercolor inn and resort (Santa Rosa Beach).

Seaside and Watercolor are right next to each other and have a similar (pseudo/pastel New England fishing village) vibe. They're nice, if you want a bit more activity and don't mind more people around. Rosemary Beach is similar, but more Mediterranean in feel, and a bit quieter. There are a few small towns/communities along the coast that have a more small town "Old Florida" fell that I really prefer. Apalachicola is a great, funky little fishing town. Cape San Blas and St. George's Island are very quiet and remote, but beautiful (but probably too hard to get to for a weekend). If travel time is an issue, Pensacola is nice. It's more a city, but it has gorgeous beaches, and a real airport.

Not Destin, unless you like high rises and crowds.

FYI -- Seaside is where they filmed The Truman Show, if you want to get a look at it.

Thank you for these answers. We're still not quite sure what we want in terms of vibe other than we were hoping to be somewhat active and not just sit on the beach all day (though some beach-sitting will definitely happen). I will look into all of these suggestions!

Stay in Naples if you want options for things to do.

South Seas Resort in Captiva is pretty awesome. Very low key, upscale, very different, IMO, than most of the rest of Florida. Not cheap.
