| We hope to finish our cottage/bungalow attic to add bedrooms and an upstairs. Would love recommendations for architects with experience with small homes. We live in a 1920s one floor bungalow in Takoma Park. Thanks! |
| Landis Design/Build, and they're right in Takoma Park too. |

I'm normally anti design/build, but I live in TKPK and have seen some beautiful additions they have done in the neighborhood. Check their website.
They are a local firm and the owner is an active part of the community. |

| Treacy & Eagleburger -- lots of experience with sensitive bungalow restoration and expansion, particularly in historic districts. |
Sounds more like a porn star's name than an architect's! |
| Rick Vitullo does a lot of work in TKPK. http://www.vitullostudio.com/residences.html |

Hamilton Snowber. Just finished a renovation/addition with them. Excellent, from beginning to end.

I've never worked with them but I've admired their work. They seem to understand that expanding a bungalow is more than just slapping a big box on the back. |
They are terrific architects. |
Ha! She is amazing - has designed three spaces/houses for me. |
| We used Shawn Buehler at Bennett Frank McCarthy for a major renovation to our 1913 bungalow in Takoma DC. We gutted and expanded the kitchen and finished the entire attic area (full footprint of main level) to add 2 BRs, 2 full BAs and office space. We had original woodwork and doors throughout the house so wanted to make sure the addition kept to the original style of the house inside and out. Shawn was very sensitive to that and easy to work with. |
PP, this sounds similar to what we would like to do in reference to finishing the entire attic area and possibly adding a second story addition to an existing addition in the back of our house. We did redo our kitchen last year. I am curious about a ballpark cost for what you described--and sorry if that is rude to ask. We've never worked w/ an architect before and the renovations we've done so far we managed w/ hiring a contractor b/c it wasn't extensive. Thanks so much! and thanks to the other PPs for all suggestions!! |
