Ovulation Stimulation Straight to IVF?

Anonymous
I've been working with a RE since last fall. The short story is that after 10 years on the pill (and a sustained very low body mass), I no longer ovulate. I've tried a couple of cycles of ovulation stimulation, and while I produced plenty of follicles, none have resulted in a pregnancy. My doctor is now recommending IVF. Is this too soon?

I think there is a lot to be said for going straight to IVF in some cases (or at least getting there quickly) esp if you are older. Check out this article about a study on fast tracking women to IVF http://www.slate.com/id/2178377/ But take my thoughts/opinions with a grain of salt since I am just in the middle of my first IVF cycle.

Well, from your post it sounds like, since you've been ovulating, you've only tried for a couple of months. Depending on your age, that may not be very much time to try. That is, another woman of your age who ovulates on her own may take longer than that to get pregnant. So I think whether you want to move on to IVF depends on your comfort level of doing that, costs, and your age. (If you are in your late 30s, you may not want to wait much longer.)
